“STOP SELLING SWAMPY LANDS FOR BUILDINGS”-NADMO DIRECTOR CAUTION TRADITIONAL LEADERS.
The director general of NADMO Nana Agyeman Prempeh has reacted to the recent behavior’s some of our traditional leaders are portraying in our communities about excessive selling of swampy lands and river banks to citizens for buildings and other projects.
According to him, they are living in fears when it’s cloudy.
He added that” NADMO recorded series of disaster in Ashanti Region during rainy seasons, streets and gutters overflowed, rivers cannot flow in actual sense because of refuse, plastic bottles which has chocked the gutters ,in conclusion, he added that most of the rivers have been blocked and filled up as a results buildings is very cruel and makes flooding situation worse in their area.
In the light of the above problems, those staying around the river banks face the consequences which is something terrible it be entertain,he narrated it clearly.
He revealed this to press when NADMO together with KMA visited Owabi river bridge in between Atafoa and Ohwim following last week heavy rains which caused so many destruction when the bridge choked with plastic rubbers and other rubbish.
River Owabi overflowed its banks during the rainfall and blocked the only access rout linking the said two towns in the Bantama Constituency.
Nana Agyeman Prempeh finally urged the land owners and the traditional leaders ruling in Ashanti that the development of their communities must be their first priority and they must stop selling lands anyhow because of money and especially river lanes and swampy areas which is not mean purposely for building must be reserved for irrigations.
